Dear Vidhya,
I hope you and your family are fine and in good health. I told you about my cousin, Raghav, getting married. The marriage ceremony happened three days ago in Mumbai. The bride, Sandhya, is from Mumbai. Hence, it was a “two-state wedding.” We all went to Mumbai and only arrived yesterday.
The wedding ceremony consisted of rituals from both Kerala and Maharashtra. This is the first time I am witnessing a two-state wedding. Both the cults have differences, and yet everybody appreciated them. The food served to the guest consisted of both Kerala and Maharashtrian food. The bride’s side dressed up in traditional Maratha style, while the groom’s side dressed up in traditional Kerala style.
Another peculiar thing about this marriage ceremony is that the money for all the arrangements was put up by not just the bride’s family but both sides equally. We should definitely appreciate such steps toward breaking stereotypes. This wedding was a completely new experience for me.
Bye and take care
Your friend
