Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends.
Very good morning to all of you.
I am very happy that we all have gathered today to celebrate labour day. I am going to present a speech on Labour day today.
Labour Day Or May Day Is Dedicated to Workers
Labour day which is celebrated on 1st May every year is also known as Mayday or International worker’s day.
In India, it is referred to as Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas or Kamgar Din.
It has originated from the United States labour union movement in the 19th century, particularly eight-hour day movement which advocated eight hours of work per day.
In the late 19th century, the working conditions of people were very bad as they had to work 12-16 hours per day. The working conditions were very unsafe and severe.
In 1886, 1st May various labour unions across the US went on strike. They demanded eight hours of work in a day. After a few days, there was bloodshed and a lot of people injured because a revolutionist threw a bomb in the market. It was after 5 years this day was recognized as a holiday by a social organization.
This day is celebrated worldwide to pay tribute to the contributions of workers and their social and economic achievements. It is a day for them to feel respected for the work they do and the time they contribute to do so. It is to motivate them and to tell them that their needs and rights are in focus.
I think we should appreciate the worker’s efforts and their contribution to society. We all know that they work really hard for minimum pay. We should encourage their hard work.
Thank you for lending me your ears.
