Gandhi Jayanti is the birth of India’s Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It is celebrated nationwide on the 2nd of October every year.
This day is decreed as a national holiday throughout India in commemoration of the efforts and struggles undertaken by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in light of gaining independence for India. He achieved this through Ahimsa or non-violence. He was also the one who advocated for the rights of the underprivileged.
To honour this great man, every year, various speech and writing competitions and fancy dress competitions are held in remembrance of this great man.
