Every year 15 august is celebrated as an Independence day in our country. Flag hoisting, parades, and cultural events mark the 15th of August as a national holiday.
Schools, colleges, offices, society complexes, as well as public and commercial organisations, hold events and enthusiastically observe this day.
On this day, the Indian Prime Minister raises the flag at the Red Fort and delivers a speech to the people. The entire event is televised live on television by Doordarshan. On August 15, 1947, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, then-prime minister, conducted the first ceremony for hoisting the flag.
Our freedom warriors fought for the independence of India. Famous figures including Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Mangal Pandey, and Dada Bhai Naoroji bravely opposed the British. Many of them sacrificed their life in order to free India from British domination. Their efforts and contributions are commemorated in the history of India’s independence.
India got its independence and full autonomy after many years of conflict on August 15, 1947. India will celebrate 76 years of independence on August 15, 2023.
This day also serves as a reminder of the difficulties and sacrifices made by freedom fighters in the pursuit of independence. The suffering endured by our heroes serves as a constant reminder that the freedom we enjoy today was won by the blood of tens of thousands of people. This day instills a sense of patriotism in each and every Indian citizen.
It unites us and gives a sense of unity despite the diversity of our languages, faiths, and cultural traditions. India’s essential identity and strength is its variety within its unity. Being a part of the largest democracy in the world, where the people have the majority of the power, makes us proud.
